Vienne River

The Vienne River is a river in France. It is a tributary of the Loire. Its length is 372 km.

It rises in Corrèze, at the foot of Mont Audouze, on the Plateau de Millevaches. It reaches the Loire at Candes-Saint-Martin (Indre-et-Loire).

The river gave its name to the départements of Vienne and Haute-Vienne.

Cities along the river include:

  • Limoges
  • Châtellerault
  • Chinon

The City of Vienne, however, is not situated on the Vienne River

    Tributaries include:

  • Creuse, which joins the Vienne north of Châtellerault
  • Clain, which joins the Vienne in Châtellerault.
