Weepinbell

Weepinbell

Weepinbell is a grass/poison-type Pokémon; it is number 70 and first appeared in the Red and Blue games. Weepinbell is evolved from Bellsprout and is a pre-evolution of Victreebel. If Weepinbell is given a Leaf Stone it will evolve into Victreebel. In the Pokémon Blue version it is found on routes 12, 13, 14, 15 (it is not found in the Red version.) In the Yellow version it found in every place that it's found in the blue version, as well as the Unknown Dungeon. In the Gold and Silver versions it is found on routes 44 and 24.

Weepinbell is often referred to as the most neglected Pokémon. Even though it was in both Pokemon Stadiums and was in Pokémon Snap, it seems to have gotten the least attention for some reason. (Weepinbell was not included in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.) In the Pokemon TV series, it was used by the character James briefly, but then it became a Victreebel. There are only 2 other times it got the spotlight in the Pokémon series. One was in the Pokémon School episode when a trainer let it out during a battle and it was wiped out almost instantley by Ash's Charmander. The other time was in the episode when Ash battled gym leader Erika (in that episode Erika let out her Weepinbell and Ash's Charmander once again defeated it.)

  • Red/Blue Pokédex description: It spits out poisonpowder to immobilize the enemy, and then finishes the enemy with a spray of acid.
  • Yellow Pokédex description: When hungry, it swallows anything that moves. Its hapless prey is melted inside by strong acids.
  • Gold Pokédex description: Even though it is filled with Acid, it does not melt because it also oozes a neutralizing fluid.
  • Silver Pokédex description: If its prey is bigger than its mouth, it slices up the victim with sharp leaves, then eats every morsel.
  • Crystal Pokédex description:When it's hungry, it swings its razor-sharp leaves, slicing up any unlucky object nearby for food.
  • Ruby/Sapphire Pokédex description: Weepinbell has a large hook on its rear end. At night, the Pokémon hooks on to a tree branch and goes to sleep. If it moves around in its sleep, it may wake up to find itself on the ground.

Note: The FireRed/LeafGreen description of Weepinbell is the same as the Red/Blue description.

Name Origin

Its name originates from "bell" (referring to its devolved form, Bellsprout), and "weeping", a word that is often used in nomenclature of plants that bend over.
