Wes Watkins
Wesley Wade Watkins (b. December 15, 1938) is a politician from the state of Oklahoma. Watkins was born in De Queen, Arkansas and he graduated from Oklahoma State University. Watkins was elected to the House of Representatives as a Democrat to replace Carl Albert. Watkins served from 1977 to 1991. In 1990, he was unsuccessful in his attempt to run for Governor of Oklahoma, losing in the Democratic party primary. Watkins supported Ross Perot in 1992 and ran for governor in 1994 as an independent candidate, winning 23% of the vote. Watkins was re-elected to Congress in 1996 as a Republican, becoming the first Republican to represent the "Little Dixie part of Oklahoma ever. Watkins retired from Congress in 2002.
