The name Wessel refers to several persons:

Peter Wessel, also know as Tordenskjold, was a Danish war hero.
Caspar Wessel, a Danish-Norwegian who was the first person to describe the complex numbers.
Johan Herman Wessel, a Danish-Norwegian writer. The brother of Caspar Wessel.
Horst Wessel, a Nazi Brownshirt who was glorified as a martyr by the party in the Horst Wessel Lied.
