WJQR
WJQR was an F.M. radio station that broadcast on 105.5Mc. (Channel 288) from south of St. Augustine, Florida from 1995-1999. Known as "Hot Country 105.5" it was licensed to St. Augustine Beach, Florida and was owned by Ken & Eileen Stein along with its co-owned AM sister station WAOC/1420. Both stations were sold in 1999 with the F.M. switching formats from Modern Country to Groovin' Oldies, 1999's answer to the Disco format of 1978 as well as the Urban Oldies format found primarily on the A.M. band. The Groovin' Oldies format was one of a string of failed formats tried around the millenium by radio executives nationwide to find "the next big thing." This graveyard of formats also includes "F.M. Talk" which is more commonly known as Hot Talk on the A.M. band as well as '80s oldies. At this point WJQR switched to WYGV to match its simulcast with WXGV (formerly WFBJ) 105.3-Fernandina Beach, Florida. The stations have been linked since, becoming a smooth jazz simulcast in later years.
