Wood Wharf

Wood Wharf occupies a 20 acre (approximately 8 hectare) site immediately to the east of Canary Wharf. The site was once part of the West India Docks. Presently parts of it are occupied by low rise light industrial premises and the remainder is vacant or derelict. It belongs to British Waterways.

The masterplan proposal is for a mixed use development, including buildings of up to thirty-five stories. It would have three and a half million square feet of office space and around fifteen hundred homes. The office space would effectively be an expansion of the Canary Wharf business district, albeit not part of the Canary Wharf estate.

The masterplan was approved by Tower Hamlets Council in 2003. During 2004 British Waterways held a competition to select a development partner for the project. In 2005 a consortium of the Canary Wharf Group and Ballymore Properties was chosen as the preferred partner.
