XXL (magazine)
XXL is a hip-hop magazine from Harris Publications. XXL is considered the fastest growing hip-hop magazine. The magazine editor-in-chief Elliot Wilson and contributor Sasha Jenkins both been at hand running the XXL. Since 1998, XXL has been in a competition with hip-hop powerhouses such as The Source Magazine and Vibe Magazine. The magazine was started from disgruntled Source staffers, one in particular, Reginald Dennis, who alongside other wanted to make better magazine aside from The Source. XXL goal's were to provide the readers with a the realest talent, which establishes their motto "Hip-Hop on a Higher Level". They scored major advertising after The Source led by rapper Benzino and his battle against white Eminem. The label Interscope offered XXL most of their coverage and generated sales increased with Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent on their cover. Since the cover, XXL average readership increased. Now as of 2005, subsciptions increased to 500,000 with an average readership of two million. The magazine had partner up with MTV and VH1 to create Ego Trip and Race-O-Roma.
