  • Xylosma G. Forst. is a genus of 85 species of busheses and trees of the family Flacourtiaceae. The main use for the species of plants in this genus, which are also called xylosmas, is as hedge plants among gardeners in desert and chaparral climates. Xylosma congestum, the shiny xylosma, is the species usually seen in garden hedges and on roadscapes.

    Xylosmas, like other flacourtiaceous plants, are found predominantly in the Southern hemisphere; however, the most familiar species of xylosma, X. congestum, originated in China.
