Yusuf Estes
Yusuf Estes (born 1944), is a well-known U.S. advocate for Islam. He was brought up in a strict, fundamentalist Protestant Christian sect, the Disciples of Christ. After an extremely varied career, including stints as a wandering evangelist and preacher, he converted to Islam in 1991. He has since been a full-time Muslim evangelist. He claims to teach a pure, non-sectarian Islam by relying only on the Qur'an and Sunnah. He has been critical of Sufism as "innovation" [[1], [1]. His critics claim that he tends towards Wahabi and Salafi views and has no scholarly training in Islam. His supporters appreciate his direct, friendly style, his energy, and his success in attracting American converts.
