Zager & Evans

Zager & Evans

Zager and Evans were a Lincoln, Nebraska rock-pop duo of the late 1960s and early 1970s named after its two members, Denny Zager and Rick Evans. People who backed the duo included Dave Trupp and Mark Dalton. They are best known for the prophetic song "In the Year 2525", which was written by Rick Evans and presented views on the dangers of technology as it portrays humanity as being increasingly destroyed by its own technological innovations and inability to adapt. In 1969 their single "In the Year 2525" hit #1 on the charts.

The band were signed to RCA records, who claimed they were "The next big thing", but follow-up singles, such as "Mr. Turnkey" only achieved minor success, as did the albums the duo put out.
After "In The Year 2525" they never had another top 40 charting single.
