ZENworks
Novell ZENworks is a product for managing large groups of Windows-based and Linux-based systems as well as handheld devices. Provides remote control (even behind a firewall!), patch management, software distribution (lights-out and on-demand by user), hardware/software inventory, and backup of user data on laptops and desktops. Current version is v6.5. ZENworks was originally named NAL (Novell Application Launcher) but its functionality outgrew the meaning of it's name and therefore became ZENworks. It then became known as ZENworks for Desktop (ZfD) because Novell produced a server management tool called ZENworks for Servers (ZfS). Since then Novell has consolidated the 2 products back to just ZENworks. Many myths surround ZENworks such as being "NetWare-required" software and being just a glorified menuing system (like Saber menu in the 80s). The facts are that the ZENworks server will run on Windows, Linux, or NetWare and can install applications as well as launch them. ZENworks also introduced the concept of self-healing applications. MSI packages are also well supported. Competes directly with Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) External links[www.novell.com/products/zenworks] Novell ZENworks Product page
