Zubrovka

Zubrovka

Zubrovka (in Russian Зубровка), also known as Żubrówka (Polish, pronounced: zhoob-ROOF-kah), Grasovka (German) or Bison vodka (English), is a brand of dry herb-flavored vodka distilled from grain, 80 proof. It has been manufactured in Poland since the 17th century and is now also produced in Russia, Belarus, the Czech Republic and other Eastern European countries.

It owes its specific taste and aroma, and its yellowish color to one of its ingredients, namely Hierochloe odorata or bison grass, said to be the wisent's favorite. A blade of this grass can be found in every original bottle of Żubrówka. Its name comes from zubr or żubr, the Slavic word for wisent.

Zubrovka is usually served either pure and chilled, mixed with apple juice or over vanilla ice.
